New Rockport Police Chief Gregory Stevens Officially Joins RPD

The new Rockport Police Chief, Gregory Stevens, officially joins the RPD on Wednesday June 19th. Chief Stevens has more than 30 years of experience in military and civilian law enforcement. He spent much of that time in the City of Lubbock, Texas. He retired as Chief of the Lubbock Police Department on May 31st. Stevens was previously announced as the finalist for the position in April. The city conducted a nationwide search for candidates
Stevens takes over a revitalized Police Department
City Manager Keith Carruth said “Chief Stevens is taking over the reins of a revitalized Police Department thanks to the efforts of Interim Police Chief/Civilian Police Administrator Fred Fletcher. Fletcher was instrumental in implementing new policies and procedures and repairing the relationship with the District/County Attorney’s office.”
Carruth added “He (Fletcher) was also actively involved in the national search for our new chief. He was in active communication with Stevens in regard to the changes and opportunities that await him in his new position.” .
